How to become a chartered legal executive (CILEX lawyer) in England and Wales

Chartered legal executives — also called CILEX lawyers — are qualified lawyers who specialise in an area of law, such as conveyancing, family, wills and probate, litigation or crime.

You could work in a law firm, a company's legal team, local government or the courts service, often doing similar work to a solicitor in your specialism.

This is a separate legal career from solicitor or barrister, with its own qualification (the CILEX Professional Qualification) and regulator (CILEx Regulation). England and Wales only.
