How it works

Search the job. Read the employer. See where every fact came from.

Where ApplySafer's employer data comes from, how it is matched to a company number and what its limits are.

The candidate path

If you are looking for work

Four steps, and the third one is the product: the evidence behind an advert, with its source attached, before you send the CV.

  1. 01

    Search a role

Search UK jobs by title and location. Narrow by pay, where you work, contract type and experience.

  2. 02

    Open the employer's record

Every listing carries the company behind the advert, keyed to its Companies House number: status, filing history, accounts deadlines, what the employer has stated about itself, and what people who worked there have reported.

  3. 03

See what each fact is sourced from

Each part of the record says where it came from. An official filing, an employer's own claim and an employee's report are labelled as three different kinds of statement, and where a figure was read from a filed document the page names the filing.

  4. 04

Apply knowing what you are walking into

The gaps in an advert become the questions to put to the employer. The application route is the employer's real one, and nothing is applied to that is no longer live.

Provenance over conclusions

No score. No traffic light. No number we have not earned.

Sources stay apart

ApplySafer does not turn different sources into one company score.

An absence is an absence

Unavailable information stays unavailable, rather than being inferred.

Every claim is citable

The reference below names the published source behind each part of a company record, and its limits.

The employer path

If you are hiring

Three steps to a verified company page and a live vacancy. What each tier includes is on the employer pricing page.

  1. 01

Claim your company, and prove it

Pick your company from the Companies House register and prove the claim on your verification page - one TXT record on your domain's DNS, or a code to your email at a domain a colleague has already bound. Nothing publishes in your company's name before the claim is verified.

  2. 02

Publish the role with the details candidates need

State the pay and the working pattern, or they are shown as not stated rather than guessed at. A promoted slot is labelled as paid placement in front of every candidate who sees it, and it changes the order of the list - never the evidence on the card.

  3. 03

    Answer on the record

Employer material is labelled as employer information and kept apart from employee contributions, so a response is read as your statement rather than as a correction of theirs. Any permitted response dialogue is capped at four posts in total.

Where every figure comes from

In summary: a company fact is published here only when a public source already states it, the page says which source that was, and what the source does not carry is printed as plainly as what it does. That sentence is a summary. The sections below are the authority, and they qualify it.

Which companies appear

—
Companies available in the directory
—
Companies in the official source

From the Companies House published register.

The directory uses the complete Companies House monthly basic-data download. Size does not decide inclusion: small companies, micro-entities and new registrations can appear.

  • Companies whose filed accounts category is dormant, or whose SIC code identifies a dormant company, are excluded.
  • Companies whose accounts deadline is more than one calendar year before the snapshot date are excluded.
  • A missing accounts deadline is not treated as overdue. Existing profiles, reviews and jobs are retained when a company leaves the directory.

Search and pagination run against the full qualifying register. A company profile is connected to the review and jobs system when opened. Company numbers identify each legal entity.

Company size is not an inclusion gate

Audit status, accounts category and reported staff provide context. They do not prevent a smaller company appearing in the directory.

What this source does not carry

The limits, stated as plainly as the data

The free Companies House bulk register that this index is built from carries no turnover, no balance sheet and no headcount. It carries the accounts category a company declared, and the gender pay gap register carries the employer's own staff band. Those two published statements describe filing categories and reported staff; company size is not an inclusion rule. No financial figure is shown, because the free register carries none. Where a figure has been read from a filed document, the company page says which filing it came from.

It includes every company in the published snapshot that passes the dormant-company and accounts-deadline rules. An employer being absent from the index is not a statement about that employer. Company status is the status recorded in the published snapshot. Filing punctuality shown on the index is measured against that snapshot date above, never against today, because a company that filed the day after the snapshot is still recorded in that file as owing accounts.

Company identity

ApplySafer uses the Companies House company number as its canonical company identity. Companies House records are refreshed only for companies already present or followed in ApplySafer, on bounded schedules. We retain only the necessary company profile facts, source reference, retrieval time, and expiry information.

Employment tribunal decisions

A company page shows one number: how many published GOV.UK employment tribunal decisions name that company as respondent. It counts claims brought, not findings. Most published decisions do not decide that an employer did anything wrong — many record a claim that was withdrawn, struck out or dismissed — so the number says nothing about the merits of any claim.

A decision is counted automatically only when its respondent is an organisation named exactly as the company's registered name or a former registered name. Anything less certain waits for a person to confirm it, and is not counted until they do. We read only the register's listing, not the decision documents. We keep the respondent, case number and date, with a link to the register searched for that case number rather than the decision page (whose address contains the claimant's name); we do not store or show claimants' names, list individual decisions or show what a claim was about. Decisions from Northern Ireland are not included.

News

News is found through the GDELT news index. We keep only headlines that mention the employer, with the publisher, date and link, and never the article text (the raw index results for a search are cached for about a month). Nothing is published automatically: a person must check that the article is about that company and write the summary shown beside it.

Cyber and regulatory evidence

Potential cyber/security evidence is limited to official company statements, regulatory notices, or NCSC advisories that expressly name the company. News reports, social posts, breach dumps, researcher posts, and user allegations are not confirmed evidence. Public labels use precise source-backed wording, such as Verified official disclosure. Material may be incomplete and its absence does not establish that no event occurred.

Review and publication

Automated rules do not decide truth or legal outcomes, and there is no company risk score. Apart from employers' own job adverts, which are screened automatically when they are posted, the only automated publication is the tribunal count described above, and only on an exact name match. Everything else — news, official notices and reviews — is checked by an ApplySafer reviewer for source, exact company identity and neutral wording before it is published. No AI is used on tribunal decisions or news.
