A person reads every review first.

How ApplySafer moderates, what it refuses and how to challenge a decision.

Last updated 4 October 2026

Every review is read by an ApplySafer moderator before it is published. A moderator can publish it, refuse it, or later hide or remove it, and every decision is recorded with who made it, when and a reason code. The reviewer is told the outcome and the reason, and how to appeal. We do not use AI tools on reviews. A triage tool exists in our code but is switched off, and we will update our privacy notice before it is ever switched on.

What we refuse

Reviews that name or identify individuals, contain contact details or anyone's sensitive personal information, state allegations as fact without describing first-hand experience, are abusive, threatening or hateful, disclose confidential information, or are not genuine — for example written for payment, or by someone acting for the employer or a competitor. The full rules are in section 3 of the Terms.

What we never do

We do not remove, hide, reorder or delay a lawful review because an employer asks or pays, and no employer plan or promotion affects reviews. We do not edit a reviewer's words: a review is published as written or not at all.

Challenging a decision

If your review was refused or removed, or you think a published review breaks our rules, email safety@applysafer.com. We acknowledge within two business days and decide within ten, with reasons; see online safety. If you believe a review is defamatory of you, use the complaint link under the review, which runs the process set by the Defamation (Operators of Websites) Regulations 2013. We do not promise any particular outcome.

What is not public

Reviewers' identities, moderator notes, the identity of the moderator, and the records kept to answer legal complaints are visible only to authorised ApplySafer administrators.
